I’M ANTI- ANTI-

Never say never. Seventy-five years on this earth and I’ve ordered my first yard sign to post. I’ve always maintained that it’s nobody’s business who one votes for. Secret ballot and all that. Oops, I take that back. There have been two times when I publicly displayed my political allegiance. The first time was when I was seven years old. I wore an “I Like Ike” button because my father wore one. The second time was in 1968 when I attended a caucus to support Gene McCarthy in his unsuccessful presidential bid. I liked his anti-war position, and he seemed an intelligent person. However, I was so disillusioned by the whole process that I became what I like to call apolitical. For the most part, I’ve kept my opinions to myself, and rarely give ear to anyone else’s.

However, 2020 has been thrust upon us, and I find among the anomalies of this year, reason to post a political yard sign. I post the sign not because I’m Anti-Trump, although I must admit that there is nothing the man has ever said or done that I agree with. But Donald Trump is Donald Trump. He can only be who he is. The sad thing is that enough American people approve of who he is to elevate him to the office of President. Unfortunately, it is a position he can never live up to. He has reached the highest level of incompetence he can reach.

Now it is time to elect someone who is willing and able to serve the people of this country, all of the people, not just the special interest groups who vote for the successful candidate. Once elected, it is the President’s responsibility to act for the welfare of 100% of the people of this land, all the men, women, children of every race, ethnicity, or sexual persuasion.

We desperately need a president who speaks for and not against. We need someone who is pro women’s rights, pro civil rights, pro humanity, pro global preservation. We need a leader who in the words of great Native Americans, “make your decisions on behalf of the seven generations coming, so that they may enjoy what you have today.”

I don’t know in the end if Biden and Harris can fulfill these needs. What I do know is that Donald Trump cannot, and he has no interest in doing so. He’s had four years to show us who he is, and he has been very successful at doing that. Now it’s time to elect someone who is determined to work for the people of this land, and the welfare and preservation of the whole earth.
