I am troubled this morning!
During the past presidential campaign, I succumbed to email solicitations and made a few very small donations to the Democratic Party’s attempt to unseat Donald Trump. I felt the cause worthy of my limited financial support.
However, since that time, I have received no less than a dozen emails per day asking for additional money to support the Democrats in Georgia in their efforts to defeat the incumbent Republicans. That also is a good cause that I hope is successful.
However, be that as it may, I am feeling quite badgered by the requests, both in quantity and in quality. The negativism that is driving the fund raising is quite perplexing to me. Each request says something negative about the opponent, followed by what feels like the guilt card — If you don’t give us money, we may fail, and we can’t let that happen.
I know it costs money to run a campaign. But to point to the the opponent and say they’ve raised “X” amount of money, now we need to raise as much, seems to say that the team who raises the most money wins. And if that is truly where we are in this country, then we have a bigger problem than Republican vs. Democrat.
To become a bully to eradicate bullies accomplishes nothing. I would rather sit next to a moral person with differing views about life than an immoral person who uses the same words I use. Heaven help us if the only way to defeat the Trumps of this world is to become one!
